Project Description

This project is an immersive media playback system for the United Airshop Innovation Center. Media was projected on three walls of a decent sized room to allow the content to extend into '3D' in some cases. Users can use a web-app on a networked tablet to control which content is playing, including features to create video playlists and set the playhead of the current video. Users can also launch external applications on the machine, such as Unity applications or webpages. As a later addition we included an on-screen 'quick start' menu selectable using an airmouse to play key videos or launch apps.

My Role

I was solely in charge of maintaining the TouchDesigner project, which drove all media playback and sent playhead information the web-app, and I wrote the CMS syncing logic in NodeJS that pulls from Google Firestore. I worked closely with other developers on this project who covered features like the external application control, the web-app, and the CMS backend. I also worked with artists to implement the UI from styleframes and create content transitions. We used SocketIO to synchronize between the various services running to create a seamless user experience. I traveled on-site to install this project initially and have returned on-site to add new features.
